Hello everyone,
I received the following email. The email requests that I pass on to anyone who has expertise in Indigenous assessments. Please use the contact email at the bottom of the email if any ANTS members have expertise in this area and wish to participate.
IÂ am writing on behalf of NHMRC to canvass your willingness and availability to participate in the Indigenous Health Review Process for NHMRC People Support Schemes for 2012 as an external assessor.
Â
As you may be aware, the NHMRC is responsible for administering a number of schemes supporting all areas of research relevant to human health and medicine. An important aspect of this involves building capacity in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health research, especially for researchers who are Indigenous.  In line with our Peer Review Guidelines, NHMRC requires at least one external assessor with an Indigenous research background to assist with the peer review of any applications which have a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health.
Â
You have been identified as someone who is qualified to undertake this important role and we are seeking your willingness to provide assessments for applications with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health focus. The review panels will use your assessment to assist them in their peer review evaluation of these applications.Â
Â
The number of applications we would need you to look at will depend on how many people are able to assist as assessors. Â However, we expect that it would be around two to five applications each. On receipt of your email confirming your interest in participating in the assessment process, you will receive an email from one or more of the schemes with applicant summaries to determine any Conflicts of Interest (COI). Once the COI process is complete, a further email will be sent with full application details, Criteria for Health and Medical Research of Indigenous Australians and other associated documents for assessment of the application.
Â
External assessments will be required for all people support schemes in the following timeframes:Â Â Â
